About me

The grass is always greener: me and a friend
After graduating from King's College, London, in 1980 with BA Degree in Geography, I worked as a journalist on newspapers and in regional television for several years, interspersed with periods of backpacking in Australia and Israel.

I took a break from journalism to bring up my family, and kept busy helping out with music at a local primary school. I became involved in community radio and presented by own music programme, and for two years I was captain of my local running club. I compete as a runner, triathlete and cyclist.

In 2011 I set up as a freelance magazine writer, specialising in history (family, local and social) and sport (running, triathlon and football). My work has been published in a wide variety of magazines, incuding: Discover Your History, Family History Monthly, Your Family History, Somerset Life, Triathlete's World, Athletics Weekly, Trail Running, the Liverpool Echo, the Western Daily Press, and Well Red. A year later I began writing books as well.

In addition to 'Letters from the Trenches', I have written 'Bristol in the Great War' which is being published by Pen and Sword Books in August 2014, and I have just begun work on another book in the series, 'Dorchester, Weymouth and Portland in the Great War', which is due out next year (2015).
